I have both a Flexcut slipstrop and a handled strop I bought with my knives. As I put more polishing compound on my strop, it seems to build up. Will I eventually have to replace my strop, or is there a way to clean it? Any details or advice on using and maintaining a strop would be appreciated! Thanks in advance. I have finished two carvings, I have photos and would like to share if anyone could suggest a site to host my pictures? |

I don't think buildup of compound on a strop becomes a problem unless you're putting way too much on it way too often. I have a good coat of green on my piece of leather and haven't added more in a year... For posting photos, this site doesn't require that you put your photos on to another web site and reference them. Start a new post, or reply to an old one, and then scroll down the page to where it says "manage attachments" it the area Additional Options. Click the button. A pop-up window appears. Click one of the "Choose file" buttons and navigate to the location of the photo on your computer. Caution: The photo must be no bigger than 580 pixels tall by 780 pixels across. If larger, it won't load. After chooseing the files (up to 5), click the "upload" button and wait for it to finish. When it does, click the "close this window" button. Now you're back on the new message input area; just click on the "submit reply" or "submit new thread" button and wait a minute or so for your post, with photo, to appear on the screen. Claude |

Some stropping compounds work best with a good coating on them. John Dunkle from Dunkle Knives told me that Yellowstone & Blue Velvet are a two that work like that. The blacker it becomes, the better it works.

if your strop is too thick with compound, take the back of a knife and scrape it some..Cowboy

Claude pretty much answered the picture posting question. You can look at the FAQ section for more info there.
