Any examples or opinions of where very small (like 2-3 mm?) veiners pay off?

There are too many to list! It really depends on what you're carving. I carve lot's of Elves and Santas around this time of year, and they are invaluable for what I do. Setting in eyes, carving eyebrows, wrinkles, beards and mustaches, etc, etc, etc. I use a dockyard set as well as some others that I have purchased over the years.

| Steve! Thanks for being the very first....err...only person to respond. LOL. Actually after 2 days and zero resp's I tried to change the title to be a little more specific. Ah well. I guess what I was asking was the more common uses of very small v tool and veiner. I see lots of carvings, but what areas were the v tool or veiner used? You did give me quite a list though. Oh, and I've already looked over your gallery, pretty impressive. |

It seems redundant of me, but I use them when I am doing small details, especially on small carvings, including all those Steve mentioned. While a larger tool can often be used, when in tight places, sometimes only the small veiner or v-tool will work. I have several small tools and I may only use them from time to time, but when I do, they are the only ones that will work! Donna_T

Likewise, I use them for all kinds of detail work on all of my carvings.

Yes, I have a small Flexcut brand veiner that I like better than my Dockyard one. Use it for beards and eyebrows mostly.

I use a small veiner to outline the under the lower lip in a face and lots of other clean up and detail kind of work. I do pretty small carvings tho
