I use only bass wood, have used only bass wood and will continue to use it as long as its available. Its soft, its workable and easy to carve. DO NOT use a horrible knife no matter what you cut. A sharp knife means more control. I myself, I'm a fan of mechanical knives. My best knife is a utility knife i bought at home depot. Its not fixed blade, it retracts. Its comfortable and good for my big hands. My other knives are all mechanical aswell. They are Xacto carving knives, One has a hooked large blade, one has a slicing blade and the other has a mini blade for detail work. Don't confuse these with regular xacto blades that are flimsy and can bend. My blades are all hard forged. I think they are D, im not sure. Keep your thumb wrapped (hence whittled thumb) and a sharp blade! CARVE ON! |
