I am interested in the carved/shaved trees call spanbaum in the erzgebirge region of germany. Can anyone help me with basic instructions, materials, tools, techniques? Any and all help will be appreciated. Thanks, pcdfdl

I have seen similar pieces done with shavings from a hand plane, but these are cut from a single piece of wood. It might be possible with a bullnose plane, but I think it is done with precise use of a shallow gouge.
