| Well I guess I should have expected this...........................After it was realized that I was attempting woodcarving, and since I have a wife and two daughters, the "orders " started rolling in HappyWink The girls said that I should carve them some christmas ornaments (In June???) So to keep peace in the family, here they are. I used the examples provided by Will Hayden in his "Classroom"................Thanks Will!! My first experience with basswood, WOW!................so much easier/nicer than pine |

ARRRGGGGHHHH!!! There's one in every crowd!!!! Starting Christmas ornaments in July?!?!?!? LOL Not to worry, I did the same thing last year--carving Christmas ornaments around the 4th of July. You just reminded me to get my stuff ready--gotta come up with some new ones. I just started carving a wood spirit stick so I forgot about the ornaments. Not to worry--I'll get to them!! LOL Nice snowmen!! I like pine--you just need to keep you tools super sharp and go slowly when hitting the grain the first time. If you "dig" in, then you'll have a chance to stop and carve from the opposite direction. Usually works well. I find basswood to be boring--no challenge--and I like the smell of pine! Bob L |

| Thanks for all the kind coments folks. So far it's been a blast, but I think it'll be a while before I find my "nich". My first and immediate thoughts were "I'd love to carve caricatures".................well now that I see just how involved one of those can be, I think I'd better stick with some simpler pieces until I get more experience. I'm just looking to have fun, I have no visions of becomming "WORLD FAMOUS" Wink Wayne |
