Default Small bark carved sample

Unfortunately no chance for cottonwood bark in middle Europe. Actually no chance for any decent thick bark. I was so happy to come across of a small piece among our purchased wood for the fireplace and this is what I managed to carve on. Please bear in mind that this is my absolute first carving and I still haven't apply any lack on it. I hope one day to come across some thicker bark. If I m lucky enough I could have Rick's (Bark Boy) comment. Howdy to all, Mary

Thumbs up Re: Small bark carved sample

You have to have a lot of patience to carve the stuff like that, I did some of my first carvings from poplar bark and it was about that thickness. Is it not possible to ship the thick cottonwood bark overseas our would it just cost to much?

Thank you all for your comments. You really give me courage to go on. Well I am not sure if I can have cottonwood bark shipped from US to (mid Europe) Hungary. This is just a small piece of acacia and it's 17-18cm length, no more than 2cm thickness (sorry I cannot give that in inches). Perhaps one day I will come across some cottonwood bark and hopefully not only one piece. You are all a bunch of great woodcarving-friends. Thanks Cheers

Hi Carl, I think that Chippingaway told me that they dont ship to Hungary. Of course I am sure that the freight cost would be higher than the actual bark cost. I intend to ask them again and perhaps I can find another supplier who's willing to ship. Meanwhile I plan next spring summer to look around my area for thicker acacia bark. For me carvign on bark is much easier since I have the patience and controlled detailed carving but not the fingers' strength for hard wood carving.

You should try and get a hold of Rick Jensen or Art Oliver they might be able to help you. I have also seen cottonwood bark on Ebay for sale you might ask some of the sellers if they could ship it overseas.
