| | Signing woodcarvings I was wondering how others sign their carvings. Do you use paint, a wood burning tool, a permanent pen, or do you use a carving knife? I haven't signed any of mine yet as a new carver, but have been reminded I should. I was curious as to the most effective way.

| | Re: Signing woodcarvings Hi Jim. I sign mine on the bottom with a Razortip wood burner. I use a very fine pointed writing tip. F9P is the model number of the tip and it allows me to write my name very finely on the bottom or back of a carving. That is if I remember to do so before I dip it in BOL or paint it etc.
I am curious on those that sign it with a pen and what kind they use.

| | Re: Signing woodcarvings i carve my initials and the year with a small u-tool, somewhere where one does see it only if one is looking closely, often on the back of a carving, sometimes on the bottom |

| | Re: Signing woodcarvings Hi Jim,
I used to paint my initials in, but for the past several years I burn them in with a fine tip woodburning pen. Usually on the bottom of a piece, such as a decoy, but if I'm carving a relief piece then I usually initial it in the lower right corner, as if signing a painting. Good luck!

| | Re: Signing woodcarvings my name has many curved letters that i find hard to carve. so i use an indelible pen (very fine point) and sign on the btm with my name and yr( tho i often add the yr when the piece sells) i use a more personal signature or name on the ones i give to my family. if i ever become famous, maybe those will have more value. lol. |

| | Re: Signing woodcarvings I usually burn mine but occasionally use a fine point Sharpie to sign. I think it is important to include the year. People who have a number of my Santas can look back and compare them by looking at the chronology. |

On my non-wood sculptures, I replace the monagram with a fingerprint. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
