Steve, I would suggest that perhaps you look at Ramelson tools. Â*They are good value, and they have good steel. Â*Nothing extraordinary, but I think you will get about 100% positive feedback from the folks here about Ramelson tools. Â*Many dealers sell these as their 'store brand,' but they ae easy to identify as Ramelson tools with their maroon handles. Â*Here are a couple of links so you can evaluate them for yourself:

Steve, don't put off ebay so fast! Every once-in-awhile some is selling good quality used carving! Right now there is a set of knives I'm watching. If the price doesn't get to high they'll be mine

Also, someone was looking for a spokeshave, there are several nices ones (used of course) around the $15-20 range! Ebay is a good resource, you just have to watch what you buy and who you're buying from. Also watch the shipping proce, some of those %$@$#@$# will really stick-it to you with shipping!

I had been watching eBay for spokeshaves, but ended up buying a Veritas spokeshave, which seems like a fine tool. There was one Kunz shave I was watching which ended up selling for something like $14, but with shipping would have cost more than buying a new one. Go figure.

I think you should buy a cheap set off Ebay.

Or you could believe the saying:

'You get what you pay for'

Slim, IMO there is a difference between 'getting what you pay for,' and 'looking for the best value.' Â*Tuesday on Ebay, some lucky person bought a 6 piece set of lightly used Sorby tools for $90, which I think is a great price for some great tools.
