purchased a new quackwood knife. but what about using the strop on it. do i start with the soft or hard leather. thanks |

A few people with a very light touch prefer the soft. Most everybody else prefers the hard.

I have bags of chrome leather, soft, but sure doesn't take long with compound on it and a few stroppings to get hard! Just don't roll the blade at the end of the stroke, pick it up so you don't roll the edge, you will be fine whatever leather you use. Talking

Some good suggestion here. Both have worked fine for me. A great technique to learn is where at the finish stroke of the knife, you lift the blade up clockwise turning the blade over then lay it back down. Usually, a person strops then flips the blade counterclockwise and this way is easy to round off the edge like Dave(HiHO) posted.
