I haven't started carving yet but want to try. I inherited a nice dremel set, which I have always wanted. I do not have any hand carving things yet so need to know what is best to get started with. I want to do dolls. Do any of you do dolls?

Hi Vinette and welcome, Keoma does dolls she can probably help get you started. As far as hand tools go I would get a good knife and a Beginners set of gouges. A lot of folks likes doing business with Rick at Little Shavers, Smokey Mountain Woodcarvers, or Treeline, all good businesses.
Here's a link to Rick's site for a beginners set.

I agree with everything mel said, maybe try working in clay a bit too if you're new to sculpture, its a little cheaper than tossing out all of your wooden screw ups.

Good Luck,
Tim
