The RBI's are great scroll saws, and would be my choice if I did a lot of scrolling. I like my Dewalt; it's a good saw and does a fine job on my carving blanks. Any scroll saw can vibrate, and some are downright scary at times. They're much quieter if they're bolted to the floor. Still, someone living below you might notice a scroll saw running. Get good blades; they make a huge difference. Flying Dutchman blades are great and cost no more than other brands. You can get free samples to try from

Carving tools are often discussed on this board. You'll find that cheap tools are just that. I hate to see beginners get discouraged because they get bad tools and the wrong wood, have a bad experience and give up. The best advice you'll see on this board is to cantact Rick at Little Shavers (also one of best posters), and he'll tell you what you need. You don't need much, but start right, get a carving glove, be careful, and enjoy.
