Thumbs up Seeking Advice on Finishing

I have finished painting my basswood caricature, should I seal it? If so, with what?

I use polyurethane satin finish varnish for my caricatures. No need to thin if it is still fairly fluid. Doesn't take much. I usually take a paper towel and wipe off any areas that get too much. DO NOT USE A CLOTH TO DO THIS. There will be lint on your carving if you do. Only paper towels work. Spray is okay but you can't really control it very well.

I find the Deft spray satin, matte or semi-gloss finishes to be equal to the brush on kind. Control is handled by the handler. You can control both methods, spray or brush on.
There are a difference in opinions on what to use and many use Boiled Linseed oil(BLO), wax or a combination of polyurethane and wax or BLO and wax or just wax, Watco or Johnson and Johnson paste floor wax. then theier are the Danish oils that can be used. Basicly unlimited to what to seal it with.
Try several methods to see which fits your liking.

Thanks guys, great info. I think I will try the satin polyurethane and brush. I also read that after applying the polyurethane you can apply a gel stain for an antique look
