Default Scotch Bright pads

When using your Scotch Bright Pads in your rotary tools to buff out carving do you leave the color of the ad s on the wood?
I have found myself going back and either using fine sandpaper or 4 0t steel wool to remove the color left from the pads. Am I doing something wrong. About to eliminate the use of these pads.

I use a brown pad there are two mediums one for regular wood carvings and another for bark carvings. Never had a problem with the color transfering to the carving. I dont use the ones you buy in the grocery store I get mine from a woodcarving supply shop. One is course and the other is fine.
Hope this has helped

Try less pressure and/or lower speed. They can be melted if you try hard enough. Might be whats happening.

Hey Kenny,
I have found the red Scotchbrite pads sometimes leave color if you go too fast and/or if the carving is damp or has quite a bit of body oil on it. Â*For the most part, I use the red and/or green ones. Â*My husband retired from 3M after 30 years so we like to keep that stock dividend flowing in....lol.

Actually, I've tried no-name filament pads and they don't hold up as well as the Scotchbrite. Â*So I'd buy Scotchbrite even if we didn't have the 3M retirement checks coming in.

Brown is a bit softer than Green and Red, and White is softer, too. Â*Like I've said before, don't waste time cutting the material in little round shapes. Â*Just cut it in squares and a few seconds of operation and it will be rounded automatically.

NO commercial here, but the 'cheap substitutes for Scotchbrite are the ones that leave the color. Try the real thing.
