The patterns I have seen usually show a front and a side view. How do I line up the two?

Just lay your patterns side by side, making sure that the top lines up and the bottom. Draw a strait horizontal line through both patterns about the middle of the pattern, when you tape the patterns to your wood just match the line it should be good. Skip

Just one more thing I would like to addto A Chaundy's great reply. Make sure you keep redrawing your centerlines as you carve them off. This way you will always be inline.
