That's usually all you'll get. A rough out and a picture. SOmetimes, if you're lucky, you'll see a picture of a carving in a publication and it's obvious that it started with a particular roughout.

others may disagree, but most expencive roughouts are not for raw beginners, there set up for carvers with enough experiance to know which tool to use to make which cut, and how to map the blanks by using centerlines and constantly redrawing the details until you get to the level of the detail... |

| | Re: roughout directions? I would have to say, "to me rough outs are tough at the best of times". Heck, I cut my own on the band saw, side and front in most cases, and when they are finally cut out, I have one hard time getting them to work for me, mind you I am totally new to this whole thing, I guess like every thing else, it comes with time.
