I admit it right off, if I lived in the States I'd buy those ready made rough outs. However living in God's Country Scotland the price of shipping makes them too expensive for me. Like others I use a variety of tools depending on the piece and my mood. One tool I use a bit at the end of the roughing out is a power file. Its got one big disadvantage, dust, lots of it. I'll only use it outside if the wind direction is right. Yes that bad, but it does the job. To each their own.
