Welcome Martin: I spent Christmas in '53 in Guam and left in July a year and a half later. I hear it's changed a little. I recently spent a delightful couple of hours reminicing by looking at 35mm slides. Sure brought back memories. Does it still rain a little?

I was also there in 1974 aboard a Canadian C130 Herc when I was a young soldier. We were heading for Nam to deliver some bug spray to the US troops. At that time it was a staging area for Nam I have never seen so many B52's in one place in my entire life.

Martin, you must ask the right questions. For example you want to carve..Basswood or Cherry,as an example. If it is assumed that you are going to carve the former, then the tools suggested are going to be small. and you will wonder how to carve this 3 foot statue in cherry with palm tools.Should you buy full size tools, then you are not limited to small carvings in soft wood.....SO, what kind of wood,NATIVE/basswood..(the shipping charges of which will be interesting) How large are your carvings going to be...If for sale, larger brings better bucks..The style of your religious figures, realistic,or Santoes style. Are they eventually going to be sold??Now,we can get closer. There is a lot of good help on this site, but you have to let the helpers know exactly what it is you are doing/wanting..Thanks for your time NAD
