Default To Repair or not to Restore a carving

:-/
Help. I am still very amature at this whole thing, as a matter of fact in 10 years I have only finished about a dozen pieces. But I love the process and want to learn as much as I can. So here is my question -> I have several older carved pieces (animals in the round) my father left our family (he died in 59 so I can't ask his advice). I know he purchased some when traveling to Asia in the early 50's and I think he carved a couple himself? 3 of the six pieces are damaged broken ears etc, should I attempt to repair or replace this damage?

Before you answer this is not my top of mind project (I have to improve my skills first) and I have been able to source enough wood of the same grain & colour used in the original carvings, I am just not sure I will be able to make the repair look good enough. The detail on 4 of the six is very intricate and I am not sure of my ability also the scale is small so that makes it harder in my mind. I can send digital photo's to anyone who might have a suggestion of options I can try.
