Perhaps this question has been asked many times, but I'm not very succesful at using the "search" feature of this forum so I'll ask here: When carving a typical figure of a human, (just say 6" tall for example) what percentage of that measurement would be alloted for the head ? I realize that if carving caricatures these measurements will vary...... Thanks in advance; Wayne |

Wow Claude, what an interesting site. I love the dragon on there. I'm gonna have to create a sign in there to explore her techniques. The suggestions on hieights for babies to adults is wonderful. Wanda

yes, very good link claude,,,and while this is a standard set of porportions, it is rather heroic for my taste, most people are not these measurements, but less tall ...what i do, to get natural general proportions is, take a few fotos of general people, standing upright, print the fotos, and measure on each how many heads they are tall... my result was, in average people are about 7 heads tall, ...and caricatures often is used a ratio of 5 heads or even less... so, using a 7 head tall you would do the head on a 6'' carving 0.85'' high, that is 21mm high..if you do an 8 head tall your have a head of 0,75''=19mm high..pretty small ...thats why caricature carvers often use 5 heads high or even smaller since if you do a caricature, say with only 4 heads in 6'' high carving, your head is 1.5''=38mm much bigger...
