| | Re: Power Tools for carving? Hey Bluejay, I am using a dremel and a 1/4 inch sanding drum to carve wood spirits in Ash walking sticks. I just started it and it works ok. Tom H |

| | Re: Power Tools for carving? Hi Tom,
Welcome to our discussion board--I know that's a bit late, but I've not had much of a chance to get on here this week and say it before now.
There's been quite a bit of previous discussions on here about power carving with different products so you may want to do a search of past postings on the topic, and there's a weath of opinions in them.
I have and use a Dremel with a flexshaft, a Mini Mite battery Dremel, a very old Foredom, and a Ram micro motor power carver. I use metal and ceramic bits, sanding drums, brushes, cutting discs, Scotchbrite, and even paper cones and sanding discs with them. But, except for when I'm working on birds or fish, I mostly carve with hand tools the old-fashioned way.

| | Re: Power Tools for carving? Dremel will work, and a flex-shaft on a dremel will also work. I use a Foredom, and a Dremel, and find they each have their own applications, but you can do well with one or the other. Have fun. More important are what burrs you use. Keep a good selection of various shapes and grits. Coarse, to shape, medium to final shape, and fine for finish and detail.

| | Re: Power Tools for carving? Hi , I do most of my carving with a dremel tool. With that handpiece attatched.
I gave up on buying Dremel bits/burs. My local hardware store sells Forney burrs and I have bought the very tiny burs from Turbo Carver II site. Those tiny burs I use for the eyes on my wood wizards on branches.
I'm going on two years with my dremel tool. And I've worked it hard I think. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
