 Power Carving Cedar Planks? Well, I have just been accepted to do a public art project where I need to carve over 300 sq. ft. of surface relief. The material is milled cedar boards 2x8x9 in. So, I am thinking of buying a reciprocating power carver. The people at Woodcraft have recommended the Automach Unit and I have looked at the Flexcut Unit. Any advise or reviews on these units? Also, I noticed that Harbor Freight has the Auto Mach for $200 instead of $300.  |

| Re: Power Carving Cedar Planks? Hmm! I'm surprized this thread has not yet got any comments! I have never used a reciprocating carver so can't offer any wisdom. But was looking forward to comments on the subject? From comments in a thread further down I got the impression that many are not fond of working Cedar. And I understand since it can chip out easily. But I know that most Northwestern Totems are carved in cedar so the techniques are out there, if you do a little research.
