I would like to find patterns for carving a santa face in a jumbo child's pencil. I thought this might be a fun start to wood carving. Thank you

Kristy,
Thanks for joining us. I can't add anything better than what Claud offered. Wood spiritis/santas on pencils make great teacher presents,

Let us know how your efforts turn out--and if there's any way we can help your carving experience.

I must pass on a tip concerning carving pencils, I have seen where carvers held the pencil in a long narrow grove similar to tongue and groove board.. about 12in long ..and with velcro straps to hold the pencil down while carving so the pencil doesnt move while making the cuts..good luck to you..I too have been interested in carving pencils..thanks for the website link..

Be sure to get your self a carving glove before you try to carve anything as small as a pencl because if the knife slip{IT PROBLEY WILL} off the pencil you will be cut for sure.Just a warning for a guy who knows!!! Ouch.OUCH!!!

In addition to Claude's post, I believe a similar tutorial exists in Tom Wolfe's Carving Santa's book as well.
