Yup that's the book,, I was off a bit on the title,,who would have thought a book would be written on the approximately 10 ways cloth can wrinkle??? but they're all there as well as sketches of pirates..warriors..indians that would make really neat carvings,,,lots of drama created in flowing ,,billowing capes and wraps.Handling these details effectively can make a piece look like it's moving while standing still.Check out this one,, as well as all the others like it at most popular book stores in the ART section,,,you'll be amazed at the info ,,patterns,,styles etc you will find there that can be easily used for carving.Many on architectural design and patterns,,Celtic knot designs,,books on drawing ( I read it carving) any animal you choose.. If anyone needs info,,it's there for the taking,,, well actually you should pay for the book of course,,.I know this isn't rocket science and most have looked there,,but take your time ,,don't look just for books on woodworking or carving,,if you do a little hunting you'll be rewarded.

I like that face. Much more realistic than the everyday elfin or Bo Derek type of angel face. I know some women around here who look quite a lot like that, and they are, indeed, angels. If I had the bucks, I'd commission you to run off 3 or 4 of those for me.

The piece flows well, and the positioning of the wings put some life into it. Most angels I see in stores are so stiff and unrealistic.

Now I'm waiting to see the finished project.

Nice site Gary,,another source of great carvings as well as beautiful robe/veil/cloak work is on the line of religious carvings by Anri. I have a client that has the entire collection. There is one of "The woman at the well" that is just stunning.It's only about 9-10 inches tall,,all the pieces ( you can get copies in plastic,,,,yuck) are hand carved out of linden,,,and it's not anywhere near what we call linden or basswood.The carver is quite old now,,the prices on the originals is really climbing,, and many of my clients are signed ( they do have apprentices that duplicate Anri's pieces) but he still does at least one new piece a yr. at least that's what I last heard.There are many lines to the collection,,and I don't remember the exact one he collects but the detail of the carving,,the painting,,you just have to see them in person if you get a chance,,,well worth it.
