Here is a site with some of my fish carvings...working on a rattlesnake, wood duck, and a wood spirit.

http://groups.msn.com/FISHCARVINGPictures/shoebox.msnw

All of these carvings were done with pine studs from home depot....except the flying fish was done in basswood.
bluegill was old dry found oak
All my fish are painted with an airbrush.
all my fish use veil or texture paint for scales
need to buy some fish scale burning tips
All all power carved then finished up with hand tools

Herman,
Some pretty impressive carvings really nice job some of them look real especially the salmon. I cant wait to see your woodspirit make sure you post a picture when its finished. By the way are you trying to make me envious those are two nice bass you caught. If you were to catch a largemouth that size up here in Canada it would be some kind of record. If I ever make that trip I am talking about I will drop in to see you and we could go fishing and carving at the same time.
Colin

Herman,
Nice work!
This site has an article on making fish scale burning tips:
http://www.fishcarver.com/
(in the 'making scales' section)
Hope this helps.
