Default Pics of First and Most Current Pieces?

I would love to see the progression of skill and artistry by some of the more experienced carvers on this board. I think it would be very inspirational to some of us newbies, would help us envision the possibilities! Anyone willing to share a pic of their very first carving alongside a pic of your latest piece as a comparison to show your "growth" as a carver ? Your comments on your learning experiences would also be great!

Not being a more experienced carver, I'm not going to post pics. But Pete LeClair brings his first two carvings with him to shows. It's neat to see the difference.

Hopefully you'll get some people to post the pics, I'd like to see them as well.

That would be great to see. I'll bet it influences a lot of would-be carvers to get into carving.

mikeg.
Thanks Mike. Maybe we need more "newbies," amateurs, and otherwise less-experienced carvers to post the same sentiments so as to "convince" the master carvers to share.

Anita....Great question and it made me actually go back and look at my first pieces again. I haven't been carving that long 5-6 years, but enjoy every new carving with as much fun and excitiment as my first piece. Its a real "high" for me to see a piece unfold out of the wood as I carve away at it.

On my picture trail site, click on it below, you'll see some of my first carvings, started with Xmas ornaments & of course a "chain", and my first wood spirit is up there too.

Have fun carving.....Bill

This has been asked before, but I didn't have a picture of it...actually my first carvings were chip carvings, my first in the round is a dolphin

I had to wait until my wife got out the Christmas decorations to show you my first carving. The Christmas Elf was my first back in 1992 followed by the santa carving. My last completed carving was aprox. 1997 of the horse head used for my signature pic. (You can see it on my Webshots link)

My current project is only the third since 97, sometime in between then and now I did a commissioned pair of Downy woodpeckers (no pic) and a full size Canadian Goose body for a Decoy manufacturer (see webshots) around 2003

The other shot is the current project I'm working on after returning to carving in October 2006.
guess I'm a moody carver

This isn't my first carving but it's one of the first. Kile's Kowboy was carved back in 1976 shortly after I started to really apply myself. The Range Rider was finished earlier this year.

Well, I could go take a picture of a pile of ashes and post that since it is all that remains of my first efforts. Nobody is a harsher critic of my work than myself.

If I can sneak my wife's camera away from her, I'll see about posting my first raven mask and show it beside my current raven mask.

Isn't that how all good artists are though?
