| | Pete LeClair books? I have been looking around for books for showing how to carve Caricatures and have been suggested a few months ago to try Pete LeClair books. Are his books good for showing a relatively new carver on how to carve faces and bodies of these types of carvings? |

| | Re: Pete LeClair books? pete is a very good carver....take one picture at a time and follow it. i've seen people take his books and skip around, and that is what their carvings look like ...they skiped around with no direction, with a lot of detail missing because they knew more than the teacher. then .....practice.... and ....practice .your first one wont be as good as your last one ...well it should'nd ...when you get done with a carving, look at it and decide what you could have done to make the carving better.

| | Re: Pete LeClair books? pete is a great teacher like vicki said the caricatures from scratch is a great go by book,it also doesnt require any patterns or bandsawn blanks, just sqare blocks that could be bought from a good wood supplier, and you are all set, also pete doesnt use alot of tools so you dont have to worry what to buy and what not to buy.
hope this helps
bart
p.s just like jim said get the book and some good wood and practice, practice and more practice. |

| | Re: Pete LeClair books? Marv Kaisersatt's book creating caricature faces on wood and paper is a really in depth book on just faces .You have to read it until you understand it but it is really a great book!I have a pete leclair book too , but Marv's goes into more depth and teaches you how to create all kinds of expression's.

I think for someone starting out Pete is the way to go..... more pictures.... and more reasons why to do something. ...and what a wood cut does for you... latter on on the carving....thats my story and I'm sticking to it. lol

| | Re: Pete LeClair books? So I will go with Pete's books. Does the book that covers carving the entire figure show you how to carve faces or should I get both of these books? | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
