Default Pattern help

Is there a good place that explains how to use patterns? How to put it on the wood, how to cut it out, etc.?

Thanks in advance.

michelle,

i learned how to cut patterns using pete leclair method in his carving bust book, other than that it is kinda trial and error, i used to just cut a side profile but now i use the front and side profile.

hope this helps

Thanks, Bart. I have a friend that's asking about cutting out patterns, and since I'm a newbie, I can't really help.

I'll suggest the book.

Talking Re: Pattern help

Depending on what I am sawing out I will cut side then double stick tape the peices back on and cut the front profile.

How will you be cutting it out? I assume a bandsaw, but one can never be sure.....

If so, do a search "bandsaw patterns" - you'll get a lot that you don't need (or want), but there is some good info.

Here's one for example:

Much help need with blank and pattern

I tape it back together with masking tape around each cut piece. You can see the pencil lines thru the tape.
Double stick tape is much more expensive and gives you a space. Put side and front pattern on wood.
