Nice looking dog, Roger, but you need to try to use the Macro setting on your camera (usually has an icon like a flower). Regular setting focuses from about 3 feet to infinity; the macro focus lets you stay in focus from about 6 inches to about 3 feet. Dig out your camera instruction manual and figure out how to do Macro photos and your close-ups will be crystal-clear!
