Default It only took me three months

I guess I'm a slow learner; I've been a member of this forum for about three months now and I know I've read dozens of posts that stress the using of carving gloves. Well today I found that I had a few minutes to spare while I was out in the shop so I decided to start another carving, of course my glove was in the house so I thought "oh well just this once shouldn't hurt"
Yup! you guessed it! I got me pretty good, I didn't go for stitches but probably should have (too stubborn or ashamed Head Bange) I'm sure it'll heal up in a few days but hope the memory don't fade. There was no need of this accident it was a result of pure stupidity ; I have the glove and have had enough warnings from people on this forum, so as long as I have that on my mind it shouldn't happen again (I hope)
When I get back to carving I think the first project should be a big club so I can whack myself in the head if I try that stunt again Sarcastic
There I feel better already......................
Wayne

LOL a big club, I post it everywhere I see disscusions of carving gloves to not rely on them. I hope ya got it clean and wrapped up right away so it doesn't get infected, plus by morning when it is healed shut ya can rip it open again.Cool Hey lets see some pics, the best thing ya can do is pay attention to what ya are working on and make sure no flesh is at the end of the knifes path. You'd be suprised at how fast it can happen and how much wood it will go through just to get at your flesh, at least ya got a good learning experience from it. I am the same way wouldn't go in and get stitches and if I really really needed them I would go to our neighboors about 1 mile away she is a doctor and a good friend. I had something else to say but I forgot what it was o well. Hope ya are as fast a healer as I am. O yeah our local club is the Bloody Thumbs we have a carving of a thumb with a wicked cut running down it and blood dripping from it, and if anyone gets cut during our meeting they have to sing the thumb, it looks very real.

Wayne,

Confession is good for the soul. Smile There is probably not a person here that has not nicked themselves a time or two. I know I am guilty of it.

Now at least go put a BIG bandage on it for lots of sympathy.

I'm sorry you've got a boo-boo. But maybe a little one now will prevent a bigger one down the road.

Hi Wayne,

Sorry to hear about your injury. It seems to happen when you're away from your normal carving area.

I was getting my car serviced a few years ago so I took a knife and a carving. I was stupid, too, and cut the top of my index finger, deep. I was surprised at how fast and how much blood there was. Been careful aned lucky since then.

So how many of you have gotten cut even with a glove on? I know it only took me once after getting cut without one for me to make sure I never carve without it again. I also know its not a guarantee that you wont get cut if you use one but its better to have one on if you do have a slip up. LOL maybe we should start a thread with pics of what can happen when you don't use a glove.

Sorry to hear about the nick. Annoying when you know better ain't it? I've picked up some really nice scars in the past couple of years and I'm sure I'll get more. I'm a slow learner it seems.
Try to look on the bright side though. One day in the distant future they may be able to ID your carvings by the DNA you have implanted into them!
get well,
Dan

Dan you're right;..........if you look hard enough at something you can always find some good in it Talking
Thanks everyone for your concerns/thoughts,; The finger's a bit stiff and sore this morning but I'm sure I'll survive. In the mean time I've got two or three finished carvings that I'll have time to paint now.

Nicks and cuts are the lot of a carver. Gloves and thumb guards and aprons help, but they still seem to occur. I am glad to hear that you understand the cause of it, and are willing to admit to making the mistake. You have learned your lesson ......... for now!

We, yes me too, always seem to be willing to take that chance to doing something without taking the time to rig up properly. "It is just one cut!" or "It wouldn't happen to me!", rings in my ears, usually on the way to the ER for stitches!!!

I have DNA is just about every ship I have ever made and many of the smaller carvings, you'd think I'd learn.

It will heal and blood is a renewable resource! LOL

Hahahahaha DNA testing from blood on carvings well I guess I don't need to sign my work anymore. I agree Joy one now might stop A bad on later, Ellenburg why don't ya start a topic of cuts and slices, I have only pics of one but I posted them in alternative materials. Look up the pics Wayne how does yours compare to that, can't tell from the pics but it went across two fingers.
