Hi folks, I recently found this and many other sites while looking around for some insight on how some designs I've seen are created. I'm putting a plan together to build a bar for a rec room, and really liked the design used on this: ![]() Now I'm completely new to wood carving and such, I'm curious as to the process, tools, etc. that would be used to create such a design? I appreciate anyone's time to respond with some helpful info for this newcomer. Thanks again |

Here's a link to L.S. Irish's white tail deer set of patterns. If you prowl around her site, you will also find tutorials on the carving process, suggestions for carving and finishing and all sorts of good information. she also has a tutorial on this site for developing the levels for relief carving...very informative and easy to understand. When you purchase these patterns you can blow them up to whateve size you want by either using a good copier that has size control, a grid pattern, opaque projector, or pantograph. http://www.carvingpatterns.com/thumbs/deer-thumb.html Al |

I second the recommendation. The carvingpatterns.com site is great and Lora Irish's books can also help you out a great deal for creating a carving like the one pictured. Norm |
