Hey Ive been asked to create a model and ive never even done carving before. Cany anyone suggest ideas i can make from the following materials? A stick and a dowel rod. The stick should be sized between 30mm to 45mm diameter and have length of between 300 and 450 mm. The dowel should be between 3mm and 10mm diameter and have a length between 10mm and 3000mm You should create a sculptural piece that uses both pieces as they intersect. You make cuts in either the stick or the dowel to allow intersection and to add “beauty and interest” You can glue the components together if you wish. No screws or other fixings are allowed. Many thanks! |

id suggest you narrow your question. to ask for an idea with out knowing all the basics is going to be tough. do they have pics from past models or is this something entirely new? whats the project intended for. whos going to view it. my thoughts with out knowing anything else would be to research basic designs in 3d objects using the same materials. just a thought let us know what you come up with

It sounds like you are expected to use both dowels to make some type of abstract sculpture, rather than much of a carving. I would normally use a drill to make some of the joints, possibly a disk sander for others. You could also use smaller dowels centered inside the others for stronger joints.
