Default new tool advice

Hello everyone,

I would really appreciate some advice as to which tool I should purchase next. I've had to return one tool already because I didn't know what I was looking at haha

I am just starting out, very little money, and only have a detail and cutting knife from flexcut. I have been experimenting with gnomes and wizards, using several awesome tutorials such as Tom H.'s and finding it difficult to create hair and eyes.

My question is: what should I get first, a V tool or a small U gouge/ veiner from flexcut?

(The woodshop near me only sells flexcut)

I'd appreciate any help!

I am with Bart as far as Drake, but I use both small V tools and small gouges/#11 for hair.

thanks guys.
I went to my local woodshop today and found out they don't sell any palm tools individually! all they have are sets, only one of which had a small sized veiner.
Since I have to order online now anyways, I am giving some serious thought to Drake's veiner.

I didn't see a #11 listed on their site though. Closest was a 1/8 #9. would that work for hair and eyes?

Take a look at this link, it shows the veiner. You will need to scroll down.

Carving Tools - SK106 5 pc. Craft Carver Set Flexcut Tool Company

This looks like it might be a good deal too, but I don't know of their quality. would that be a good investment or just throwing my money away in the long run?

Sounds like a set of dockyards might be good.
