| | New Spirit Face in basswood Here is my second spirit face in basswood. There is a knot or rough spot that runs the entire piece that I did not find until I got into the wood. Still nowhere close to Colin's work, but I'm hoping to branch (haha) out and do some found wood in the spring.

| | Re: New Spirit Face in basswood Your pc is excellent. I love the mouth area. I also like how smooth the texture is.... My carvings tend to turn out rough. Could be the wood I pick, most likely the skill of the carver |

| | Re: New Spirit Face in basswood Looks very good, and ya know what??? Those knots and other flaws in the wood add charcter to a carving. Lets folks know that it really was done in wood and not some polymer substitute!

| | Re: New Spirit Face in basswood Excellent woodspirit I especially like the nose I still have problems with noses. I also like the the flow of the hair line. Really good job you may want to try a slightly darker stain on the carving itself or an antiquing to bring out the features. I find that on bass wood I like to make the carving darker than the background. Just a suggestion I like the carving just fine the way it is. I have the same problem with the sign I am doing I am not sure if I want to burn to faces slightly to make them stand out.
