Default New Guy

Hi,

My name is Steve. I tried carving a few years ago and did not have much success. My brother talked me into going to a carving club meeting with him tonight and I am very excited.

I live in Western Maine and have done woodworking for years, just not any carving. Hopefully having people to answer my questions and show some techniques will be helpful.

Anyhow, I have been reading this forum and getting some good information as well as getting inspired my some of the work other beginners have done.

Hopefully I will be posting a project here soon.

Steve

Steve welcome to the forum. I have been carving for awhile and I learn something most every time I am on the forum. Great group of carvers here and they are always glad to help.

You're going to love this forum. There are a lot of newby carvers on here (I am) and every question gets an answer--sometimes several answers. Lots of great ideas and food for thought. This will definately be your go to place for all the help you need.
And aren't carving groups the greatest folks you can ever meet?!

Steve my brother, we are with you every step of the way! The only shame in carving, is when you are 'NOT' carving. It's like riding a bike, or like learning the alphabet... Im almost certain, that you could write the alphabet with your eyes closed...? Although i wouldn't recommend you carve with your eyes closed.... You say you can do wood work. Well, you started somewhere.... right??? Same as with carving, drawing, or any other medium... You grow accustomed to doing it. It becomes second nature... I carve, and there is still a whole world of stuff i don't know... Life is a learning process. If you stop learning in life that means only one thing... You are no longer alive... So don't worry Steve... You'll be fine! Hurry up with your first carving... Im dyin'a see!
Good luck, and all the best, Rob Vega (Lazy Carver)
