Default New to the Form

Hello everyone,I am an old guy (64) who trys to chainsaw carve. Was told that there was a previous article in a the Mag about carveing mantels. I did my first mantel last week and want to learn more about the process. Mine was done with dime tip chainsaw and power tools.Would like your tips and comments . Hi and welcome to the group, that is a good looking mantel. The Carving Magazine ( 2006 ) issue #14 page 65 and issue #15 page 42 have good articles about a mantal by Joe Dillett. Wood Carving Illustrated ( 2008 ) issue #44 page 34 has an artticle by Jerry Mifflin. Hope this helps.

Hi Leland, Great to see you here & welcome to the WCI forums, You will find a great bunch of people here & there is a cs carving section also! The mantle & releif carvings look great & thanks again for the help on the eyes! What I find really makes the entities on any reilef carving stand out is to take a long taper structured carbide burr, after you are all done with the chainsaw, & undercut all the edges & this makes them apprear much deeper or they stand out as if they are more realistic & gives you some seperation which makes it much easier if you plan to apint also. You should post some of your Turkeys you have carved as most here would love to see them also!
