Default New carver

I am new to this and would like to get started. I was at the Calgary Stampede several years ago and viewed some fanatastic carvings of western caricatures and western themes (cowboys, cattle, horses etc.) After seeing those exhibits I was fascinated with them and would like to get started on something of this nature. Is there anything out there of this nature that is not to complicated that I can tackle.
Thanks
Errol

Welcome to the forum!

Here are a couple of lists of YouTube videos for beginner and intermediate carvers:
Gene Messer’s Carving Videos Jim's Random Notes
Arleen (Carverswoodshop) Carving Videos Jim's Random Notes

This site has a lot of Western-themed carving videos, but I'd rate it for intermediate and higher...(personal opinion only). The videos are well done, and if you pay attention and hit the pause button frequently, you can follow along, even as a beginner.
OutWestWoodCarving

All three show you how they carve the figures, and then how they paint them, as well.

Enjoy!
Claude

Hello and welcome! There are several carvers on WCI that carve super western characters. Check out some of the Forums and also take a look at the Carver's Gallery...search under Indians, Mountain Men, Wood Spirits, Cowboys.
