Lindy,
Really nice work I really love the cougar. Years ago I was training for a triathlon on Vancouver Island and one day all by myself running down Mount Washington one stepped out onto the road just ahead of me. We both stopped dead in our tracks looking at each other for what seemed an eternity. She took off into the bush and for the next 5 miles down that mountain I was looking over my shoulder the whole time. They are a magnificent animal especially when you see them that close. I can see by your work that you are definatly influenced by Desiree and your work is excellent I think you have a uniique style. Thanks for sharing the pictures
Colin

If those are your first carvings, I would say you have quite a carving future ahead of you! They are great!

WoW!

Thank you for all your wonderful compliments!

Colin, that must have been so cool to come across a cougar like that. We get reports of them entering the city now and then (Calgary) but I have yet to see one. :-/

Personally I think big cats (at this point) are my favourite to carve and I'm going to stay with that for awhile until I like every one I carve and then move on to another animal.

I so appreciate everyone's comments, thank you.

...wonderful stuff considering the difficulty of being able to make an animal appear animated. I have to agree that if these are truly your first carvings then you are well on your way. Keep ona carvin!!

Thanks for all the wonderful comments.

I should add that the first carving was done in a class with Don Williams at Lee Valley Tools here in Calgary. The nice thing working with him is that he makes you do all the work and just gives suggestions. The 2nd cougar and the Polar Bear are from blanks that I bought from Don and the Dolphin is my own pattern that I created on CorelDraw.

I'm going to take a day class on Bark Carving and then another one with Don on relief carving.

Hey Bandaid! It's great to find another Calgarian here. Thanks for the welcome.

Lindy
