Default Need some coaching on buffing.

Setting up my carving table. HAve a sharpening station for lathe tools etc. Haven't gottne into strooping and buffing with the cloth wheels and leater wheels. Plan for now to use an old variable speed drill. Question is when I set up speed what is a best surface speed for this type of stropping?

Also bought a stick of Flex Cut Gold stropping compound. Instructions imply to rub it on tool not on wheel as one might a tripoli compound.

Pointers?

Pudding, You really don't need much speed at all for stroping, let the compound and leather do the work. The buffing wheel is just for a final polish on the tool, and no more than a couple of seconds. The compound goes on the leather, and buffing wheel.
