I finally have Odie roughed-in, but I think I cut too much off the pant's legs - too narrow to hang over his shoes. Can soomeone give me some ideas or pictures of other caricature's shoes. Sorta like pants cuffs that just cover the laces or something? Other than that I'm pretty ok with 'im. Still has a tree-trunk hat and is a total square yet...but we'll get there. |

Your ok. Just angle the pants from the top of the shoe down to the heels. The best way to see this is just stand in front of a mirror. You are the best pattern that you can have. Steve Brown Woodcarving |

yea you have plenty left to work with from what i can tell, i'm the worlds worst about not drawing lines to carve but it really helps, draw your line like steve was talking about so you can see it then carve away, just make small cuts so you can correct if needed. also steve's tip of looking in the mirror is dead on i reference myself in one often....as tough as that is !!lol. but you got a good start there be sure and show him finished

Make the shoes smaller is your only choice I would think

As whittled thumb says make the shoes a bit smaller you have plenty to work with you can angle them so the sole is wider than the top which it is anyway then you are a-okay, or make them high boots and tuck the pantd into the boots

You're fine...I would very carefully trim away the lines you now have on the pants ( will also have to thin out the shoe just a bit). Then like Steve sad cut the line for your pants from the top of the shoes in front to the bottom of the heels in back. To show you what we are talking about look at the pants on my carving of Patriotic Santa. I think you will get the idea!

I think you can go either direction - you can put sandles on him, so pant length doesn't matter. Or go the other route & put knee high boots on him. You can even make the bottom of the pant leg look like he has a rolled up cuff. You still have plenty of options

Thanks folks. That helps. BobK - thanks for the pictures. Bonus - a bit of help on the arms too from the pic! I'm not carving tonight, to tired after work. Maybe a little penciling in of ideas tomorrow.
