ok I've carved some stuff but i am just beginning to dabble in caricature and such. But i don't understand how to connecct arms to the torso? Somewhere i read just glue it. But that does not seem to be a nice thought. Because i can see someone bumpin my table and the arms flyin off. So do you carve a small post on the arm then drill a hole in the torso then glue or? im so confused.

yes and yes, you can carve a POStT on the arm, drill the body and glue in. You and drill in both pieces and glue in a small dowell rod. You can used the round toothpicks. You can drill through the arm and into the body and carve the excess. But yes, glue the part on. Use a wide rubber band to hold the POSTED and glue pieces together.

spookhouse, you can use those "skewers" you get at a dollar store, or at wallyworld..a whole package for very little, they are bamboo and very strong to use as dowels....as for your location, we have started to ask for the state people live in because lots of questions have to do with locations of different kinds of woods, clubs, supplies etc etc and saves a lot of wasted space explaining what can be done with the state being listed....and whatever state you are in, confusion or otherwise I am sure there is plenty of room to hide ha haApple

This may be a really really dumb question ... but what is the best glue to use for what Spookhouse is talking about? Will any old wood glue do? Or is there a glue brand and/or "type" that is the preferred glue of wood carvers?

I use plain old yellow Carpenters glue. The particular brand I use is "Titebond II." Why Yellow and why Titebond II? The yellow is water resistant and Titebond II is what is readilly available, is inexpensive, and is general purpose wood glue. Use if for almost everything. Elmer's makes some too and I wouldn't hesitate to use it either.

I use Elmers carpenters glue, because here, it's the most available lol....if I am in a hurry and have to maintain a position, I will use cyanoacrylate and mist with the quick set. (thats carpenters crazy glue if you are not familiar with the name)
