I live directly north of you in eastern Tennessee and can tell you that good "local" basswood around here is hard to come by. I would highly recommend you contacting Heinecke wood products and ordering it from them. Most anyone on this board will tell you that they sale some of the best basswood you can find.

The Woodworkers shop in Hickory sells it. It is the northern variety. THey may have LARGE pieces that's the southern variety and "bulk" - rough sawn as it's properly called. It's a bit high (up front) but you don't pay for freight. If you are a member of the club you get a discount.

Other wise there are multiple sources where it can be ordered on-line.

Hey Dagwood....you're not disagreeing....just another option.

For clarification, Dagwood works at the Woodworking shop - hence his use of the word "we".

As I explained (not clearly), you can get it cheaper by ordering (Heineke), but can pick it up and see it for a little higher price at the store.

Mountain Man - I haven't tried Heinecke yet, but understand from lots of posts on the forum that they are good...so far I've been pleased with the '20 lb. specials' from Rockler...fairly inexpensive and fast service.
