| | nasally challenged There should be some kind of remedial training for people who can't get it right. I've botched four noses in a row now and I'm ready to cut my nose off and call them self portraits. I can't be the only one that's having this problem. Maybe we can start a support group and discuss the psychological ramifications , come up with a name for this disease and get the Gates to donate to the cause and then take the money, go out and get shnockered

| | Re: nasally challenged ElwoodT,
Every nose I carve, I screw them up. A little lolsided, to long, to short, to wide for the face, to narrow. Then the eyes, one a little larger than the other or vice versa ,One up higher or lower than the other. eyelids on one and nothe other.
All I can say is practice, practice and practice some more.
Maybe a study stick would help you. It helped me but definitely I have not mastered carving the nose or eyes.
Hmmm, maybe a carving with nothing but hair hanging down over the face.
Keep trying, you will get it. |

| | Re: nasally challenged You will have to go to that nose group, Nostro dam us, they have trains that come in 4 at a time with a load of nostros, think they call them quatrains! The whole group had a nostro problem of course you could also go to the ear group, they are run by some guy named Ear Lee and they call themselves the Ear Lee warning group...remember now, don't cut your nose off to spite your face, join a group There is also the Eyes of March, but I won't get into that one, they are always watching! |

| | Re: nasally challenged Boy, if you guys are sober, you should get schnockered!?!? And if you're schnockered already, no wonder you got nasal problems!
I too have an a occasional nose problem. So, I carve it larger than I want and usually it ends up working out fairly close to what I want. And if it's off a little, I leave it alone. But of course, if I'm carving a nose, it's gonna be a caricature regardless.
BTW--I don't carve that well because I want people to laugh!

| | Re: nasally challenged Noses are always a challange for me, I also go a little wider than shave down to a better size as I'm shaping the nose, bridge, wings, etc. I don't put the nostrels in until I'm done with the whole face, usually the last thing i carve. Additionally, I use more of my gauge sthan knife work when shaping the nose area. Goodluck, practice & practice. Bill |

| | Re: nasally challenged HI Elwood,
I am by no means a "nose carver". I have trouble with them too, but I am willing to wager that if you post pictures of the ones you're having trouble with before you carve them completely off then someone here can help. Also, maybe the help you get can help the rest of us.
