Look good what kind of wood is it? I think a coat of stain would bring out the detail. Is it a large carving or is it just held close to the camera?

Forrest,

Nice first effort, keep at it.

What kind of wood is it? If it's basswood, a clear wipe-on finish will bring out the highlights. I personally prefe Minwax antique Oil Finish. You can apply as many coats as you like to bring out the shine from a dull satin finish to a pretty good shine.

One way to tell what your carving will look like with an oil finish is to wipe it with a damp cloth - just enough to wet the carving. This gives a pretty good idea of how the grain will stand out. cuts usually show even more to emphasize the carving.

Your woodspirits are really improving! I agree with the rest of the guys. If you stain it the details will really pop!

yep, great job. I go in with the rest...a bit of stain or clear finish would bring out the detail better..I think.
