How long did it take yaal to get good at carving? Again thanks for all the help ! It is hard to get started but I need to come up with a hobby. I am home at night from 5 to 8 so a side project would be nice. This carving wood go hand in hand with tree trimming. I could get free wood all of the time. Can you carve with cottonwood hahahahaha?

Yes, you can carve Cottonwood, and just about any other kind of wood, some are just easier to carve than others. The best wood is free wood! Smile So if you are in a tree trimming business....it's a natural for you to carve! You get the "pick" of the best woods. Many of us here would envy you the opportunity !

Nice thing about carving is you don't need much in the way of tools....a good sharp knife is usually enough. or a chainsaw! Don't forget, a chainsaw makes a great carving tool......just look around for chainsaw carvers, they do fantastic work. Mostly...have fun with it.
