| I've had this done for a few weeks now but have been busy so it's just now getting put up. I watch Mr. Messer's video on Carving Santa Out Of A Block Of Wood but I guess you could say it's just a man because I didn't paint red and green. I changed it up a bit too. Any comments good/or bad are welcome. Any suggestion on how I could do a little better would also be appreciated.Carinna Last edited by cburnett; 06-13-2011 at 02:48 PM. |

Looks good for a first attempt Carinna. Just keep practicing! You'll be your best critic!

It seems like you are off to a very good start. Santa wears other colors when he does things around the house, shop, barn etc. Have fun with it all. Carve On, Kadiddle |

Nice work, Carinna! If I might offer a suggestion, on your next carving, work more to get ride of the "corner" that you're carving on. Pick up this carving and look at it from the bottom - it will still look like a triangle, and it should look more like a "half-round" (except for the nose). Don't be afraid of cutting too much off - carve the general shape before adding any details. For example, when I start a carving on a corner, I mark with a pencil where I want the nose, then carve the wood rounded above and below the nose area. This allows the nose to stick out, while having a rounded face, beard, chest, etc. Your painting is excellent - nice clean crisp edges where colors meet! Claude |

Thanks for the advice. I can see what you're sayin', when I look at the carving just about everything comes to a point. Carinna |

Carrina, You did fine. I was wondering the other day how you were getting along with your carving. Good to see that you are still at it. Safe Carving and God Bless, Mark |
