Question Mounting seperate carved arms

I am currently working on a caricature sports figure. I want to do the arms seperately and attach to body. He will be in a position to throw a ball with arm out and up. Any suggestions for the elbow joint for strength, as two directions will be inprocess. Hope this is a little clearer than mud,as to my need.

Thanx a lot

In the CCA book, Carving The Full Moon Saloon, the piano player has one arm in the position you describe, I think. The carver drilled and doweled the arm before carving it. If you have the book and see who carved the piece, an e-mail to the carver would probably get you an answer on how he did it.

Bill....Go to my Blog and review the Chuck Wagon Cook project. I show how I do it. One thing, and this is important, DON'T finish the upper part of the arm or the upper part of the shoulder on the main blank until the arm is attached. If you finish both pieces and then glue them it will look like two pieces glued together. Do it the other way and you won't be able to tell when one piece ends and the other begins.

Thumbs up Re: Mounting seperate carved arms

Jim , Lynn thanks for the tips on mounting the arm, sorry about the slow response. Just went back to work after hip replacement, and trying to get back in swing of things.

Thanx again
