thanks for the very kind comments .
Brian I just use the knife and work through the wood on both sides. Its not hard to do and is a lot of fun.
The wife wants to give them to friends for christmas (She cant like her friends to much lol)

Excellent idea, now how would you add ornaments? Really tiny ones with wire? Paint? Carved on the tree (somehow)? Ask Fly Fisherman for something tiny?

I've done some candle sticks that way, but never thought of trees!
