Default Miniature Dexter Cow

Finally, here is my third carving, The Miniature dexter cow. I had some nightmares with it but finally got it finished.

It was a hughe learning curve. Attaching the four legs, the tail, the paint and then the base.

The eyes look terrible in that photo. I was going to put some glass eyes in but it did not look too bad in the real, so left it as I had had enough. This learning curve can kill you.

The cow is 3 1/2 inches high from bottom of hooves to top of ears. The rump is approx 3 inches and the overall length from head to efar extension of tail is a total of 7 1/2 inches.

The base is 5 3/4 inches long by a diameter of 3 1/4 inches.

I was pleased the way the woodburning came out for my first attempt.

No, not really. It was the first opportunity I had to take photos. That was another learning curve I was avoiding, Finally cleared my head and got it done. That is why I numbered the carvings so you can see the order of regression or progression.

Thanks Steve and others. it is like a giant jig saw puzzle. Gatheringn little bits of information here and there trying to fill in the gaps.

We had a Wood working Show in Brisbane about sixty miles away this weekend. They had a few carvers there, not like most of you guys do, but more sculpturing and very heavy sanding.

The reason being that our local wood is very hard and does not really lend itself without difficulty to knife work. But I picked up some more information , that plus my artists friends and everybody' help here has put me into information overload. Time to back off and try some toy making for a change just to clear my head.

Neat cow! I have carved a lot of hardwoods and for sure, it's addicting to be able to carve good basswood. Spoils ya.
