I seen my daddy whittle a chain from cedar years ago. The first issue of Whittling featured a small chain also carved or whittled and it brought back memories. My question is how do you part the chain links where they are locked together as a chain would be made? The article doesn't get into enough detail to finish the chain. Thanks sawmedic |

I would not recommend cedar for a chain - it can split very easily & too much pressure could send the blade into body parts. And it's going to be the inside chain split where you are more-than-likely going to run into potential problems. I'd use basswood, butternut or even walnut. Just remember, keep your knife sharp & watch where the blade is headed.
