I very new at this and would like some ideas for quick and easy things to carve for myself and my coworkers, I have a lot of people at work fired up to get started after seeing my first few projects, I need real short simple things for us to start out with.

Hair sticks are always a real simple and fun thing to make. Especially if you have any long haired ladies in your office Way cool of you to think of carving for your co workers!

Sounds like you have the office interested in starting to carve also. There is a book first carvings I think it is called has a neat easy nativity, a scotty dog and a boot all designed for beginners. They have a copy at our local library. If yours don't have it they may be able to get it. I always try and get a copy of any book I'm interested in through interlibrary loan. Then if I like it I try and order it.

Several carvers here have YouTube videos, some of which have quick and simple projects. I found Gene Messer's Five Minute Bear and Five Minute Wizard to be particularly helpful when I was starting out (and even now). Don't worry, there's no timer: you don't have to do it in five minutes. I certainly can't. Also check out Arlene's YouTube videos. There are other members with carving videos. Those are just the two I'm familiar with.

You know woodland animals can be easy and who doesn't like hand carved bunnies, owls and walking bears or standing bears all easy profiles. I remeber my first carving was a simple barn owl in walnut.
